A preliminary analysis of the 96th edition of the Academy Awards

Out of the 53 film nominations, 36 are currently available on SVOD OTTs. Netflix takes the lead with 12 films available on its platform, 8 of which are original productions. Following closely behind are Prime Video & Amazon Studios, Optimum and Go3, each providing 6 nominated titles.Did you know that none of the nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role has received an Oscar yet?

Among them, Bradley Cooper stands out as the most nominated actor over the years. Paul Giamatti received his first-ever nomination in 2005 for “Cinderella Man”, while others are receiving their first nominations in 2024.And, what about the nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role? Among the five nominees, Emma Stone shines with a prior Oscar win in 2017. While Carey Mulligan and Annette Bening have been nominated for Oscars before 2024, Sandra Hüller and Lily Gladstone are receiving their first-ever nominations for their remarkable performances in ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, respectively.

Securing the Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Actress often foreshadows a potential Oscar win. Since 2013, nearly all actresses honored with the SAG Award for their leading roles have gone on to receive the same recognition at the Oscars. Some of the most recent winners who scored both awards have been Renée Zellweger (‘Judy’, 2019), Jessica Chastain (‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’, 2021) and Michelle Yeoh (‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, 2022).

However, there are only two exceptions as of 2013, where actresses clinched the Oscar without prior SAG Award victories: Olivia Colman, recognized for her outstanding performance in ‘The Favourite’ (2018), and Frances McDormand, acclaimed for her portrayal in ‘Nomadland’ (2020).

This year, Lily Gladstone got her first-ever win at the SAG Awards, marking a significant milestone on her path to the upcoming Oscars. However, the competition ahead remains formidable, as she contends with Emma Stone, a previous Oscar winner and a favorite among critics. Will Emma Stone claim the golden statuette once again, or will Lily Gladstone achieve her first memorable win at the awards?

In the past 12 years, European productions have scored the most wins in the Best International Feature Film category, with a total of 6 awards. On the other hand, Latin American films have fallen far behind, securing only two wins – Una Mujer Fantástica (2017) and Roma (2018) – during the same period. However, since 2020, European and Asian productions have consistently won the Oscar for Best International Feature Film. This year, out of the five nominations, four go to European countries (Italy, Spain, Germany and the UK), while only 1 Asian production from Japan makes the cut.

Here is what a metadata system designed to scale at enterprise level actually looks like, and the decisions that determine whether it holds up over time.

The Architecture Behind a Metadata System That Actually Scales

Jun 1, 2026

Adopting an API-first metadata platform is a necessary starting point, but it is not what determines whether a metadata system holds up at enterprise scale. The decisions that matter are above the API layer: how the canonical record is structured, how changes to it are governed, how enrichment is handled, and how the integration model is organized. Here is what those decisions look like in practice.

API-First Metadata Management: What It Actually Means (and What It Doesn't)

May 29, 2026

API-first has become a standard claim in media technology marketing, applied to platforms with genuinely different architectural approaches and very different real-world behaviors. Here is a precise account of what API-first metadata management actually means, what it genuinely solves, and why being API-first is a necessary foundation rather than a guarantee of good outcomes.

May 28, 2026

Two of the media industry's most significant spring tradeshows, MPTS in London and NAB in Las Vegas, surfaced the same themes regardless of geography or format: the urgent need for flexible, configurable operations, the growing complexity of metadata and IP management, and the industry's continued commitment to solving these challenges in person.

The Weekend Effect: Latin America Streaming Viewership Patterns

May 27, 2026

Nearly two in five series that appear in Latin America's streaming popularity rankings do so exclusively during weekend periods. They are discovered on Saturday or Sunday, consumed over the following day or two, and never return to the rankings during the week. That pattern has direct implications for how content is programmed, promoted, and prioritized across the region's streaming market.

May 22, 2026

Most metadata discussions focus on movies and TV series.
