Capturing Our Industry Journey
Highlights on the Road
I had the privilege of attending MIP Africa in Cape Town, one of the continent’s leading Media & Entertainment events. Africa is no longer just a growing market — it is increasingly at the center of global production. International projects such as Dune: Part Two in Namibia and Gladiator II in Morocco show how Africa’s competitive costs, skilled crews, diverse locations, and expanding government incentives are making it essential to global creative pipelines.
At the event, I delivered a session titled “The Big Five of Streaming”, a creative take on Africa’s streaming landscape framed through the lens of a safari. We explored the major and local players, the rise of fast-moving newcomers, and audience behavior — particularly the dominance of mobile-first viewing and the importance of creating content for Africa’s youthful population.
MIP Africa confirmed what we’ve been observing: Africa is not only consuming global hits but producing them, exporting its stories, and shaping the streaming strategies of tomorrow. The opportunities here are immense, and the momentum is only accelerating.
